Book Launch
Lorraine and Joy attended a Book Launch at Black Cat Books bookshop in Paddington. Kate-Lyn Therkelsen wrote a book called “The Wilted Rose” the story of her grandmother’s life, her struggle with mental illness and the loss of a small child. In those days there was no help or very little help in the community for either mental health or loss of a child.

Kate-Lyn wanted to bring to the attention of her readers the struggle people had and still have in their lives with these issues and the fact that there is help available now.

Beverley McGuiness is Kate-Lyn’s mother and the daughter of the woman in the book and she intends to promote the Compassionate Friends as they travel and promote her book both here and overseas.

The next book Kate-Lyn is working on is her mother’s life as the daughter of a grieving mother and also a mother who has a mental illness.

“I am very passionate about promoting community help as I lived through the isolation and lack of help back in the 1960s – 70s. I want so much for families to not feel that isolation and lack of validation and I aim to build awareness within communities through book promotions, radio, press, the internet etc.” – Beverley McGuiness
