The Many Facets of Grief

Date: 16th June 2012
Time: 9.00am – 2.30pm
Venue: Grace College – Walcott Street University of Queensland, ST LUCIA
Guest Speaker: Trish Wilson, — RN, BCouns, GHDSts (Loss & Grief)

Trish is a nurse and midwife with qualifications in counselling and loss and grief studies. She worked for many years in the counselling team at the Wesley Hospital, which included supporting patients and families who were dealing with wellness, adversity and facing death. This included in-hospital care as well as supporting families through the Wesley’s Bereavement Support Program.
Trish completed her studies and went on to lecture in the Loss & Grief program at the University of Qld. More recently Trish has been in private practice as a grief counselor, with much of her work focusing on supporting families who are faced with the death of a child. She currently co-ordinates the Bereavement Support Program at the Mater Mothers Hospital.

Once again a number of newly bereaved parents attended this year, plus some of our telephone listeners from Central & North Queensland and Toowoomba. Overall feedback from the Seminar was excellent with workshops after the guest speaker proving very popular.

Attendees enjoyed the sunshine between sessions, speaking to other bereaved parents and found this time very rewarding. During the closing ceremony famies were asked to come forward and place a frangipani in bowls of water as they said their child’s name. This proved a very fitting and moving end to the day.

Thank you to Grace College for giving us the hire of the rooms for our Annual Seminar free of charge.
