2011 Annual Grief & Loss Seminar

Date: 18th June 2011

Time: 9.00am - 2.30pm

Venue: Grace College - Walcott Street University of Queensland, ST LUCIA

Guest Speaker: Associate Professor Judith Murray - Bereaved parent, author and Senior Lecturer at the School of Psychology at the University of Queensland.

Judith’s major themes of research have been in the area of reactions to bereavement and other situations of loss and the development of evaluation of interventions to enhance mental well-being. When our child dies we become so weighed down with grief that we feel like we are chained to it 24 hours a day. Judith explored these feelings and others and provided some ways to unshackle these chains of grief and find a way to live with our loss. We had a number of newly bereaved parents attend this year, plus some of our telephone listeners from Central & North Queensland and Toowoomba. Overall feedback from the Seminar was excellent with workshops after the guest speaker proving very popular.

Attendees enjoyed the sunshine between sessions, speaking to other bereaved parents and found this time very rewarding.
