TCF Queensland (Brisbane) hold their inaugural Walk to Remember

Posted: 17 April, 2013

On Sunday 14 April TCF Queensland held their inaugural Walk to Remember.

After raining all day Saturday, Sunday dawned a bright and beautiful day - our children were definitely watching out for us.

Special guests who came along to support us were Robert Cavallucci MP Member For Brisbane Central and Vicki Howard Councillor for Central Ward. Shortly after 10am we set off for our walk twice around the park.

After the walk we went down to the river where a poem was read by Joy, Qld co-ordinator, before roses were distributed to everyone to throw in the river in memory of their children.

Following this we all went back to the BBQ area where Robert Cavallucci gave a short talk then we had time to mix with each other and enjoy a sausage sizzle.

The highlight of the morning was the pipe band who happened to be in the park, and upon request from us, marched down to the river and played Amazing Grace - how special!

Thank you to Sherwood Runners

Posted: 26 February, 2013

Over the past decade, The Compassionate Friends has been strongly supported by the Sherwood Forest Runners and their friends. Sherwood Forest Runners is a group running from the Sherwood Arboretum each Saturday morning at 7 am open to anyone wanting a fun run. Over the years the Runners have supported several good causes including Queensland Cancer, Huntington’s Disease and Brisbane Flood Relief. Since 2005, TCF has been the principal beneficiary.

The Runners have raised about $30,000 for TCF through three Bridge-to-Brisbane runs, an Antarctic marathon by Sally Wilson, donations by some schools and regular annual donations by the club management.

The Runners have supported TCF in memory of Nell, loved daughter of Jenny and Bill Palmer (TCF members) and Erin, loved daughter of Jane and Tony Gray, because both Bill and Tony are regular Runners. Nell died in February, 2002 some days after a fall from a horse. Erin died in April, 1994 following a bicycle accident near the Arboretum. Both Nell and Erin were vibrant young girls with all their lives ahead of them and both are missed terribly by their families.

It is now time for The Runners to move on and they are now going to support either Beyond Blue or The Fred Hollows Foundation, both very worthwhile causes. The Runners wish TCF the very best for the future and hope that TCF will continue its very good work in helping grieving families after the loss of a child.

TCF would like to thank Bill Hancock, Bill Palmer and others on their committee and all of the runners and their friends for their wonderful support over these years.
